always a bit skeptical when it comes to pop-ups these days, there’s so many around and not all of them are any good. Lucky for you guys we’ve found Sabel AND we’ve tried and tested it for you. Located in Palm 2, a pretty pop-up space in Clapton, the four course feasts – and they are feasts – are served on communal tables. The British menu is cleverly put together and changes up each time. On the night we visited the pop-up kicked things off with a White port and tonic and selection of snacks – the lamb scrumpets AKA deep fried strips of lamb served with a redcurrant and mint jelly are the highlight. Then came a selection of starters including a plate of cornish sardines and fresh tomato salad topped with ticklemore, lovage and seeds.

For mains it was all about the Beef cheek served with Girolles mushrooms on top of smoked mash and doused in gravy. COME TO MAMA. There was extra mash too and a couple of salads but when there’s extra mash and gravy who wants salads?! Pudding came in the form of an egg custard tart with berries, brown sugar and lavender. Wines come in milk bottles other than that there’s no crazy quirks, just banging quality food in good portions.

Toby the chef has 12 years experience around the world so knows his shit. If you’re looking for a pop-up experience and you want to be sure it delivers. Sabel is the one!
