LondOntheInside tried something different this week. We checked into ’Rough Luxe’ a hotel located on a side street just off Kings Cross…….
With only 9 rooms Rough Luxe is more like a large house than a hotel. We had a room on the top floor, up three flights of rickety stairs – no lifts here! We were surprised at the smallness of the room. The beds are sofa beds and ours had been ‘turned down’ before we arrived so we didn’t get to see it folded up. Plus the bathroom was outside the room and shock, horror it was shared. But, what surprised us most was the lack of TV/Radio/Magazines, the only thing we had for entertainment was each other.
So taking full advantage of the lack of things to do we opted for an early night. We slept like babies and surprisingly for the location we didn’t hear one siren. The next morning we were greeted by the friendly man of the house and served breakfast in a lovely little room in the basement. The breakfast spread was good, fresh juice and coffee, pastries, posh toast, fruits, yoghurts and more. It was just a shame we had to rush off early to work.
Rough Luxe really is one of a kind although with the current trend of ‘industrial’ decor it may not be long before we see more hotels adopting this concept. Did we like it? We did but if we stayed again we’d splash out and book the room with the freestanding bathtub.
Room rates start at £177 for a double with shared bathroom. All rooms must be booked in advance.
