Pintxos landed in Notting Hill, before spreading its wings and opening a second branch in Covent Garden. We went along to check out the new site, located on the lovely Neal Street. The bar serves up Pintxos (the clues in the name!) which literally means spike in Spanish, think Tapas on a stick. It has a relaxed atmosphere and plays some really cool music, think Flo and The Mo, Kasabian , KOL etc. Inside is quite dark, there are lots of bar stools rather than sofas or chairs and a small separate room away from the bar at the back .The idea is simple you grab a plate and work your way along the bar selecting whichever Pintxos takes your fancy. Each one is priced individually and you can have a little or much as you like. To accompany the food the bar offer a selection of Spanish beers and wine – we recommend the beer.
And so to the food, which was quite simply great. There are a selection of hot and cold tapas, we sampled a couple of each. All of the food was tasty and fresh but our personal favourites were the warm Garlic Mushrooms with Spinach and Cheese, the warm Pepper Stuffed with Goat’s Cheese & Pine Nuts, the Vegetarian Tortilla and the Salted Cod and Crab Croquetas were an absolute corker .
We finished off with a Churros with Chocolate Sauce and left with a pleasant taste in our mouths. Pix Pintxos is the perfect place to meet for after work drinks with its informal atmosphere and self serving methods. We will be returning although we might try the Notting Hill branch where Sienna Miller and Will.I.am have been spotted (just saying, just saying!) and for only £2.50 per Pintxos it isn’t bad value either.
