Oncea home to The Rolling Stones, Queen, Bowie, The Beatles and many more; Olympic Studios is a hub of culture that dates back over a hundred years ago. Today, the venue holds onto its rich history and boasts both a cinema and restaurant under one roof.
The restaurant has a contemporary feel, all wooden floors and candlelight, serving up a British inspired menu with some European influences. To start, it has to be the Deep Fried Squid with Garlic Mayo, it’s meaty shellfish in a crisp light batter. If you’re more turf than surf, try their succulent Duck Rillette with Sourdough Crisps.
For the main event, we fell in love with the Pork Belly which came with perfectly crisp crackling and the juicy lamb chop, cooked to perfection. As a side, you have to try the mash; it’s creamier than cream.
To finish, we went for the most adventurous pud…Pear and Cider Soup with Butterscotch Ice Cream and Shortbread. It’s a crazy mixture of hot and cold, sweet and sour, but it works. With some time to kill before stepping through to the vintage inspired cinema, it is only appropriate that you enjoy a cocktail at the bar…
Stepping through the foyer to the cinema is like stepping back in time to the early days of film with its vintage decor. There is a Sweet Shop serving up homemade popcorn, sweeties and alcoholic bevies if you fancy a cheeky one. The highlight of the cinema was the reclining seats, with plenty of space between you and your neighbour, so no awkward arm stroking.
For those of you who want to cuddle up, there are love seats at the back…but please, keep it clean folks! A one stop shop for drinks, dinner and a film – we’re IN!
