OLDROYD
is the first solo restaurant from former Chef Director of the Polpo Group, Tom Oldroyd. Located on Upper Street in Islington in what’s best described as a “cosy” venue the restaurant serves a daily changing menu of seasonal ingredients. We popped along for dinner kicking off with a couple of wax-sealed Negronis and the smoked pork belly & pea croquettas with truffle mayonnaise. The good news is these were banging, the bad news is if the menu changes up daily then these will soon be gone. GO NOW.

The dishes are designed to share so we ordered a good selection; our fave was the creamy crab tagliarini, thin freshly-made pasta, coated in a rich crab bisque sauce with chunks of crab meat. Other highlights included the roast monkfish, braised fennel & tapenade and the ripe peach and cow curd panzanella salad with broad beans & mint. Don’t miss the zucchini fries either – super light and crunchy. We’re huge fans.

For decent grub on Upper Street that’s reasonably priced and well thought out OLDROYD is an excellent choice and is well worth a trip across town. Just make sure you book as it’s pretty small.
