have to admit we’d never actually eaten in a Med Kitchen before nor felt a desire to until we visited Richmond last weekend. The restaurant located on the riverside away from the main High Street has a the terrace with views out over the river which is the perfect place for a spot of alfresco dining.

The menu is reasonably priced with a focus on Mediterranean style cooking (Med Kitchen – you geddit?). All ingredients are prepared freshly on site including the fish, corn-fed chicken and Donald Russel award winning beef.

To start we ate the Crumbled goat’s cheese, toasted pine nuts, rocket and Asian pear salad and the Deep fried calamari and zucchini with horseradish and tomato sauce – no complaints here. For mains the Beef Bourguignon was so tender the meat just fell to pieces, served with homemade mash the dish was rich and filling, exactly how beef bourguignon should be! The 8oz homemade Donald Russell chopped steak burger served medium rare with a bowl of light and crispy fries didn’t disappoint either – the quality of the meat came through in every bite.

We just about squeezed our deserts in; Coffee panacotta with caramel was full flavoured and creamy whilst the home baked vanilla cheesecake was light and fresh. Yes we may have overlooked the Med Kitchen in the past but we’d definitely go back, especially as we had half of the Who sat next to us – Thumbs up people!
