There
is no shortage of burger joints in London, but what makes Meat & Shake stand out is the story behind it. Three Muslim friends wanted to jump on the burger bandwagon and make good quality halal burgers without alienating non-muslims. The result is pretty impressive.Modest in size, Meat & Shake still stands out from the shops that surround it and when we arrive it is already buzzing with people. There is no alcohol on the premises with this joint following the halal philosophy. Luckily the shakes menu is awesome.
We tried the Truffle Shuffle, a beef patty with truffle mayo, gruyere cheese, honey & onion truffle glaze and the Smoking Bandit — with chipotle mayo, smokey cheddar, smoked turkey bacon, lettuce, tomato, sautéed onions and ‘plenty of smoke’. The burgers are made with ground 35 day aged beef and cooked slightly pink, just the way they should be. The truffle burger is rich and flavoursome with the perfect bite to it, whilst the Smoking Bandit arrives in a dome of smoke, which when removed cascades over the table like something from the Crystal Maze.
A side of rosemary fries is more than enough between two and the buffalo wings are worth a shot, but be warned they are HOT.
With big plans in store for future restaurants including partnering with some top barmen and mixologists creating a menu of mind-boggling mocktails Meat & Shake are making an impact.
