of the hustle and bustle of the Southbank, then how about taking a ride on the North side! Yep it exists, and it’s here where you’ll find bar and restaurant Northbank; the only place serving up decent Cornish grub on the Thames.

Overlooking the Millennium bridge and the Tate modern, with a huge terrace this place is going to be one hell of a sun trap this summer. Visit on a Monday for Mead Mondays were you can bag yourself a Mead cocktail and a small plate from new chef Jason Marchant for a tenner. For anyone who doesn’t know mead is a traditional english wine which tastes a bit like a dessert wine to us and went great in the cocktails. With meads from the Cornish Mead Company you can get you hands on the standard mead or one of the fruity meads which have been used as a base for the cocktails.

Our favourite was the Honey Mead Rise made with, you’ve guessed it, honey flavoured mead which is then mixed with Wyborowa Vodka, Riesling, Lemon and Thyme. Food includes the likes of Cornish Crumpet, Falmouth Crab linguine and the rabbit and Cornish mead terrine wrapped in soreno ham which had a real homemade quality taste. All the dishes are made from traditional Cornish ingredients and follow traditional Cornish recipes, and if that isn’t enough the bar also offers a free glass of champagne to ladies on a Thursday, men in drag are also welcome.

It’s a great place to be near the bright lights of the Southbank but away from the flocking crowds.
