food offering in Hackney just keeps on getting better these days with restaurants to suit all budgets and occasions. One such restaurant which is raising the game is Mayfields, a neighbourhood dining room set on Wilton Way. Inside the decor is very on trend, lots of white with simple furniture and big windows making it bright and airy.

The restaurant only opened in May but it’s already got quite a fan base, we visited on a Thursday night when it was pretty much booked up. It’s all about the sharing dishes here and the food veers more to the fancy side with dishes like mackerel sashimi, sweetbreads and octopus, ginger dashi and radish.

We tried a varied selection, each dish carefully planned so that flavours and textures merged perfectly together. Of the bunch our highlights were the beef capaccio, blackberry, nasturtium and samphire, the mozzarella, bottarga and courgette, the duck, black olive, purple basil and raspberry and to finish the brown butter ice-cream.

There’s a great selection of wines too which is no surprise given that one of the restaurant’s partners is Borough Wines and they also serve cocktails. Or do as we did and hop over the road Borough Wines for a cheeky aperitivo – job done. With a frequently changing menu, clearly executed food and relaxed atmosphere Mayfields is right on oh so many levels.

Mayfields is at 52 Wilton Way, E8 1BG
