a hard week of work, work and more work we decided a treat was in order and headed down to try out Mango Room in Camden. We hadn’t booked but thankfully we were seated fairly quickly – note if you do visit we’d recommend booking as it filled up pretty fast!

We drank Rose wine (£16 a bottle) although the cocktails looked amazing and at only £7.50 they’re not bad value either.

We skipped starters and went straight for mains opting to save the Grilled Tiger Prawn Skewer for next time. With a choice of about 8 mains there isn’t a huge menu on offer, but isn’t that what Ramsey says menus should be like? Plus the mix of dishes is good, with something to suit everyone.

We choose the Sea Bream accompanied with a side order of rice (so huge we managed to share it between three). The Sea Bream was nice piece of fresh fish although we have to admit it lacked the kick of Caribbean spices and was actually a little bland.

The curried mutton with a side of hard dough bread was the best dish – hot , spicy and full of flavour and the classic akee and salt fish with scallions and peppers was also worth a mention! All mains are about £11 pounds which we thought was a little on the steep side.

The restaurant interiors are quite swanky and the atmosphere is relaxed but we feel it lacks that Caribbean vibe and if we’re brutally honest we wouldn’t make a massive effort to return but if you’re in the area looking for some quick, healthy it’s worth considering. Trust us there are definitely worse places to eat.
