Malmaison Newcastle is located slap, bag in the middle of the Quayside right on the waters edge. The hotel looks out over the River Tyne and onto the Millenium Bridge and Baltic art gallery – full marks for location.

Inside the interiors are typical Mal style, deep purples and blacks create a dark and luxurious setting. We were lucky enough to score a room with a river view even though it was a standard double (ask when booking). The room was a fair size with everything you need from a hotel room; bed, TV, fully stocked mini-bar and bathroom with large bath and toiletries including our favourite aromatics grapefruit soap!

The hotel has its own bar, café and brasserie as well as a basement spa. We stayed on a Saturday night and the bar was heaving come 7pm with guests and locals taking in the views from the floor to ceiling windows. After a quick cocktail we headed to the brasserie where we treated ourselves to a Malmasion burger, anyone who hasn’t tried one, should. They are MONSTER burgers and the frites aren’t bad either.

Fed and watered we headed out into town which is conveniently only a 10 minute walk away, good news for those who want to try a traditional Geordie experience and go out wearing no coat. We’re not going to lie we can’t remember getting in that night but we can remember the breakfast the next morning. Full English and a continental buffet to suit every nationality!

The Malmaison is a good choice if you are looking for a hotel to have fun and explore the city from. It’s a great base to stay and well priced, perfect for a hectic city break. Check out the website for deals before you book – you can usually score a room from £99.

P.S. Keep an eye out, when we were there Take That were in the house!
