Fyne is a large chain of fish restaurants which is probably the reason we’ve never visited before, however last week we found ourselves at the Covent Garden branch. Inside the decor is pretty swish – spacious and light with a fresh fish counter at the back where you can choose your fish to eat or take home. Most of the fish is sustainably sourced from Loch Fyne where the first restaurant was located many moons ago.

We started with a basket of freshly baked, warm bread, quirkly served in a small wooden basket. Pan-fried Chilli & Garlic King Prawns served in a deep pot of lemon oil and Loch Fyne Smoked Ashet, a generous trio of salmon, all served differently with individual dips.

For mains we took advantage of the fish counter choosing a Wild Scottish Hake steamed with Slow Roasted Tomato & Chilli Pesto, Pan-fried Samphire in Garlic Butter and Spinach with Nutmeg. The great thing about Loch Fyne is that not only can you choose your fish, you can also choose the way it is cooked, the sauce it comes with and the side portions. Making it as healthy/deadly as you wish.

Another main of Smoked Haddock, Colcannon mash, mustard & crème fraîche sauce and soft poached egg was our favourite dish; rich, creamy and perfect for a cold evening. We were pleasantly suprised by Loch Fyne, there weren’t any signs of a chain restaurant group, the atmosphere was bustling, the food was all pretty decent and there’s a healthy wine and whisky list. What’s more there are some great offers including a three-course menu for £11.95 before 7pm and kids eating free.
