Restaurants
have been popping up in Kings Cross at a fair old rate over the past few years, and latest to join them is The Lighterman. Built right on Granary Square, and next to the canal, The Lighterman has a primo spot and has plenty of outdoor space for summertime drinking. The ground floor has more of a pub vibe, but upstairs is a more formal sit down space, also with an outdoor terrace where you can sit and look out over the square. The team behind the Lighterman also have Percy and Founders in Fitzrovia so know what they’re doing when it comes to delivering upscale pub food. We started with a seriously good giant sausage roll, served with a homemade brown sauce, plus a pretty-as-a-picture cured trout with spiced mayo, cucumber and spring onion. Moving on we had mains of a whole grilled salmon steak on the bone and roasted cod with celeriac puree, both of which hit the spot. Make sure you save room for dessert though as these were the best courses of the day – we loved the peanut butter parfait with caramelized banana and the sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream.
