a time when all we seem to hear about is the opening of yet another gimmicky eatery, the latest openings in Clapton have produced a welcome counter trend. In particular, a brand new spanking jazz café. Jackdaw – opposite the Clapton Pond – opened its doors just over two months ago, and has been a welcome addition to the neighbourhood.

For starters, its restaurant is ran by a talented Head Chef that goes by the name of Joshua Dallaway, who recently appeared in Alex Polizzi’s BBC series ‘Chefs on Trial’. The weekday menu changes weekly, though on our recent visit we tried a range of delicious dishes, from caramelised cauliflower, pumpkin gnocchi, hispi cabbage and possibly the best ever chocolate mousse known to human kind. Saturday evenings are reserved for a tasting menu, and like any good British establishment, Sundays is the day for a traditional roast.

JACKDAWROAST

But what makes Jackdaw that extra special, is the jazz. Serving up live music sets from its basement – like all good jazz venues do – seven nights a week, it’s the perfect spot to discover the jazz scene’s latest stars, as well as indulge in some good-old fashioned blues. Great music, great atmosphere and even better food, Jackdaw ticks our boxes.
