A four hour drive from London, the lodge is in Bovey Tracey right on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. We stayed in one of the two bed lodges overlooking Indio lake with private hot tub and huge terrace. There’s only 13 lodges in total and they’re spread out across two lakes which means they are pretty private.
Inside, the cabins have everything you need to be self sufficient (provided you bring food!) which is good as the nearest shop is a drive away. There’s a huge kitchen with all kinds of appliances and equipment, lounge area with TV and cable for connecting your laptop to watch films like Cabin in The Woods say. There’s also a bookshelf filled with books including guides to the area.
We got slightly addicted to that hot tub, plunging in three times a day to relax whilst looking out over the lake and watch the fish jumping. We made full use of the kitchen too, heading to Ullacombe farm shop just up the road to stock up on homemade meals, local meats and cheeses. One day we ventured to Brixham, a small seaside village to check out Rockfish, a fish and chip restaurant overlooking the harbour. The restaurant serves a whole load of freshly caught fish which the server writes down on the table for you. It’s grilled or battered and fried and we all know battered and fried is the only way to eat proper fish and chips. We ate ours with curry sauce, pickled onion rings and unlimited chips – yes they come with unlimited chips.
On the drive back we stopped in the moors to walk off those chips, stumbling on wild ponies, lakes and unlimited instagram ops before heading back for one last go on that hot tub.
