Grand Union Farringdon is the newest joint from the informal burger chain. Located just a stone’s throw away from Smithfield Market – quite apt given the meat focuses menu – the interiors feature the staple GU style with antique furniture, mirrors and paintings. Downstairs feels like a cool basement den where if you stayed late enough you’d be up for getting more than messy. We recently went along to check out the food and more specifically the brand new dirty dogs – quite apt given that we’ve all been a dirty dog at one point or another.
The Dirty Dogs at Grand Union as you might of guessed are the new range of Hot Dogs – yes everyone is getting involved in the hotdog trend. There are three to choose from; the Nude dog which comes with cheese, onions and crispy bacon and is perfect for pre-drinks fuel conveniently lining the stomach but without wiping you out, the Hell Dog with chorizo, jalapenos, cheese and fiery sauce and the Dogs Dinner with cheese, bacon, onion rings and BBQ sauce. You can even go double dogging and add an extra dog for £3.
The dogs come in the form of 6 inch pork frankfurters and cost just £6.50 a pop which isn’t bad. What’s more GU Farringdon also have Indie DJ’s playing every Friday from 8pm and its free entry before 9pm so if you are looking for a place to hang on a Friday night this is the spot. Decent, cheapish grub with cocktails and music – what more do you need?
