Giant Robot on Clerkenwell Road is the latest project from the people behind Milk & Honey, The Clubhouse and The Player. The décor is great, exposed brickwork, quirky lamps and we particularly liked the menu above the kitchen which looks like an old cinema board.
The bar specialises in meatballs which are washed down with large selection of cocktails and beers. There are other things on the menu but for us it was all about the ‘balls’. For £6.95 you get a small portion of pasta with three meatballs and although it isn’t the cheapest, the pasta is tasty and the small portion is sufficient for lunch.
The Tuna Crostini (the Italian version of a baguette only with less flour) at £4.20 is great value; we were surprised to find it contained a tuna steak! However the clear winners were the Sliders. A meatball served in small bun topped with cheese and sauce. Like a mini burger, they are a bite sized treat in a bun. If we were to go back we would just order three of these bad boys!
To finish we tried the ice cream sandwiches and we have to say these weren’t great, the cookies were a little too hard and the ice cream contained lots of frozen water crystals. To sum it Giant Robot is a great place to grab some lunch or for after work drinks and nibbles. They also do a staff meal between 5pm-7pm for only a fiver, a good move the week before pay day!
