CHECKING IN: GENERATOR HOSTEL AMSTERDAM

Generator2-LOTI

It’s no wonder Generator were named Europe’s fastest growing hostel brand, with a whopping 8,600 beds across Europe. The newest, Generator Amsterdam, is the first of 3 set to open in 2016. The hostel is everything you would expect from a Generator – cool, vibrant and affordable. Located in the trendiest part of the city (obvs), Generator overlooks Oosterpark and fits right into the up-and-coming East neighbourhood.

Although the hostel is brand new, the building dates back to 1908 and is a former part of the zoological department at the University. Generator have interpreted this into their urban designs, with their ‘Nescio auditorium bar’ set in an old lecture hall and their private events room in the former library. The basement has also undergone a transformation, which is now a spacious dining area and the boiler room is now a secret late night bar. It wouldn’t be a Generator hostel without a few quirky features, so an outdoor terrace overlooking the park, a raised café and glass panelled elevators have also been added to the building.

The hostel has a combo of quadruple and double rooms, some of which have floor to ceiling windows with views over Oosterpark. Whist on the top floor the ‘Sky Suite’, is a luxury apartment that sleeps up to 6 guests and has its own kitchen and lounge. Rooms start at €15 per night and go up depending on how many people you want to sleep with. If you want to experience Amsterdam without spending mega bucks then Generator is your answer.
