the first day of Spring hasn’t quite sprung into action yet it isn’t stopping London venues from changing into the new season. One Aldwych hotel is the latest establishment to get involved having updated their afternoon tea menu to fall in line even if the season hasn’t.

The Floral Afternoon Tea takes inspiration from the Chelsea Flower show and London’s prettiest season. We went along, with mother in tow, to sample the sandwiches, cakes and scones all subtly floral themed and decorated with petals. The tea is served with the choice of four floral tea infusions or four floral martinis – did we mention it was floral themed?

The Afternoon Tea is served the traditional way; Chicken and wild garlic, smoked salmon and egg mayonnaise sandwiches on three different breads took the bottom tier. Next up were the scones, moist and still warm served with a selection of jams – strawberry, rhubarb and plumb – and of course clotted cream.

Finally it’s all about the sweet treats, vanilla panna cotta with violet leaves, white and dark chocolate marquise and orange blossom jelly, rosewater jelly and lemon drizzle cake. Difficult to call a favourite but the lemon drizzle cake was pretty sweet.

It’s £35 a head with a cocktail or £26 per head without, but come on, when in luxury, go with the flow.

Served now until 31st May
