REVIEW: FLESH AND BUNS

Flesh and Buns is the new Japanese  Izakaya restaurant, sister to Bone Daddies Ramen Bar, specialising in…wait for it…flesh and buns. By that, they mean hirata steamed buns served with a selection of meat and fish fillings.

Located in Covent Garden the restaurant offers big booths or sharing high tables. The cocktail list is pretty quirky and bang on trend, pink grapefruit negroni anyone? Starters are divided into sections; hot, cold and raw. We started with light and zesty yellow tail sashimi, an absolute pleasure to eat. Crunchy Tempura prawns, fresh salmon and avocado sushi rolls and chips with dips ticked all the boxes.

Flesh and buns come served with pickles, the meat on one plate and the buns served steaming in a wicker basket, sliced and ready to fill. We chose the sticky, sweet salmon teriyaki and the tender, juicy flat iron steak which was perfectly seasoned.

To end the Kinako Donuts donuts filled with black sugar custard completely finished us off. If Flesh and Buns keep this up they’ll have no problems packing in the people just like sibling Bone Daddies. A great menu too for those who claim not to like Japanese food. Check it out peeps.
