you remember all those times – after one too many sleepless nights lying on the cold floor of a tent, that you vowed to never go camping again?

Now picture this…Waking up in a king-size bed, staring up at a bright blue sky through the skylight, listening to birdsong, and then taking au natural to a whole new level whilst having a piping hot outdoor shower. This, dear friends, is glamping at its best.

Tucked away in Dorset’s forests,  the Crafty Camping site is open all year round, and is home to three bell tents, two yurts, a teepee and a berry-red shepherd’s hut all created by woodwork extraordinaire Guy Mallinson. Surrounding the very picturesque trout pond, each abode is kitted out with wood-burning stoves, electric blankets, reindeer skins, hot water bottles (perfect when hunkering down in the winter), heated towel rails and woodland showers (a highlight on a starry night or even better still, when raining). And very handily, they are all connected by a system of boardwalks to avoid walking in the mud.

When not kicking back in a hammock on your own private decking, there is a sauna yurt to relax in, as well as a communal yurt with traditional board games and cupboards filled to the brim with local cider and red wine.Genius. And if you fancy cooking up a storm the shared field kitchen comes with a wood fire pizza oven, a huge stove and all the utensils you would ever need.

We stayed in Coracle, an 18ft yurt, filled with the products of Guy’s very own craftsmanship, including candle lanterns to make the whole experience just that little more cosier. And not only can you admire the woodwork from a distance, but Guy also offers a spoon and bowl carving workshops for those feeling slightly more adventurous.

If you are in need of re-charging the batteries, and fancy getting back to nature, this is the place for you. Now all you need to do, is book.
