Drinkingcocktails has never felt so holy, with Communion Bar opening its church themed doors underneath Angels & Gypsies tapas restaurant in Camberwell’s Church Street Hotel. Each table comes with a glass of red communion wine and a wafer. The décor boasts well-lit stained glass windows, surrounding the basement and DJ booth, which is positioned in the center of the room.
On a recent trip we sampled some of the finest cocktails, including a Daisy Flower Martini containing real daisies, Snow Leopard Vodka over broken grapefruit zest. If you’re after something a little fruitier try the Dry Cherry Ilegal; containing Ilegal Mezcal, juice of grilled Sicilian lemons, Cherry Marnier with Amarena Cherry sugar rum. The cocktails really are top notch, using only the finest high-end ingredients and with prices ranging from £7.50-£10 it’s pretty good value for money.
Tucking into tapas sent down from the restaurant we sampled cured meats, tortillas and spinach plates. The portion sizes are perfect for tucking into and sharing with friends, with enough flavor and ease to be picked at alongside cocktails or wine.
We’d recommend heading down to Communion Bar any evening from Thursday to Sunday, where there’s live music pulsing out chants of funk and soul. Plus, the promise of £5 artisan cocktails from 6-8pm everyday, during ‘The Blessed Hour’ are bound to lure in the unsuspecting passer by.
