It’s
about this time of year (when it starts getting dark at midday and your hands are in a constant state of defrost) that we start dreaming of sunny Spanish getaways. But instead of spending our Friday nights watching the security staff at Gatwick Airport forage through our smalls, we’re heading to Camino where we can eat delicious Spanish food, drink Cava and feel safe in the knowledge that nobody has viewed our pants…at least until after midnight.Camino have just launched their winter menu so along with their classic dishes, you can feast on suckling pig belly with spiced apple and thyme sauce or pan fried seabass with mojo verde whilst feeling smug in the fact that you’re carrying more than 100ml of liquid.
The Presa Iberica- pig shoulder with aubergine puree- came highly recommended and was our fave. That was, until the Pulpo (octopus) arrived as a full tentacle on top of a tasty saffron mash and rocked our world. If you’re in the mood for some meat (and since all the charcoal grills are imported from the Basque country, why wouldn’t you be?) the rib-eye steak will make your mouth water. And then probably start shouting ‘delicioso!’.
We topped it all off with the top-notch dessert selection which included Crema Catalana and Crema de Limon but spotted plenty of the Churros going into satisfied gobs around us.
You might prefer to shovel down a packet of crisps on the shuttle to Gatwick North Terminal but we know where we will be heading for our Spanish fix!
