is all about British food and we like that, oh yes there isn’t anything quite like a big dirty portion of Fish & Chips or Pie and Mash when you’re raging hungry. The gastro-pub style, small London chain has just three outlets; one in Notting Hill, one in South Ken and the most recent one in Westfield Stratford.

We went along to the South Kensington branch to test out the menu which changes seasonally and is made up from ethically sourced, sustainable ingredients – full marks here! Firmly seating in a cosy booth we set upon the menu happy in the knowledge that the beef is sourced from local farmers, especially given the current horse dramas.

We dived straight in for the homemade British cow pie, made with British beef, carrots and rich gravy – emphasis on the cow. A hearty dish, huge in size and a real winter warmer. Whilst Slow roasted Dingley Dell pork belly with a celeriac apple sauce, roasted carrot and onion was perfectly cooked, a crispy skin leading to super soft meat. With a side of roasted Crown Prince squash with toasted pumpkin seeds, we had more than enough food to share.

When it came to dessert we played it safe and shared one – well it was only lunch time – opting for the boozy rice pudding with prunes. Creamy, thick and wonderfully rich it’s definitely better shared! For British grub with good ingredients and generous portions Bumpkin is where it’s at…
