you’re looking for authentic Spanish tapas South of the river then Boqueria on Queenstown Road is Battersea’s hidden gem and it’s got things going ON. We turned up on a Tuesday evening to a packed out restaurant (always the best sign). The menu is handily split into sections of entrantes (appetizers); tradicionales (starters); salads; meat; seafood; specials; cured hams; cheese and desserts.

Out first was the hand carved Iberian ham, selection of cheeses (Manchego, Goat’s cheese, Calabres) and the tomato bread sprinkled with salt and drizzled with olive oil. Then came the most delicious onslaught of hot dishes: fluffy croquetas filled with Iberian ham and roast chicken; aubergine cannelloni stuffed with goat’s cheese, shitake mushrooms and spinach; King prawns swimming in a sea of garlic, piquillo peppers and olive oil; lamp chops in garlic and white wine; and the suckling pig on a bed of apple sauce with sweet potato crisps and wait for this…lemon sorbet. It worked; it really worked. In fact, everything was spot on: we couldn’t fault a thing about this fiesta.

Boqueria

When it came to the sweets the chocolate soufflé with mango ice cream could of been a bit more gooey but flan de queso: an indulgent mix of crème-caramel and cheesecake was spot on. In Battersea? Then say HOLA to Boqueria.
