amongst all the soulful hubbub of the Portobello Road, this new Jamaican burger joint pays perfect homage to the area’s carnival spirit. Founded by Caribbean-born chef Josh De Lisser, it offers up a new take on London’s growing burger frenzy – and it’s big, bold flavours and deliciously messy menu help it stand out from the rest.

In terms of choice, it’s a nice, straightforward selection – there are 6 burgers, 2 salads, 4 sides, and occasionally the odd special on the menu. As starters, the scrummy saltfish chilli and herb fritters had us pining for the Caribbean sea, and the jerk marinated chicken wings were scoffed up within seconds.

For the mains, their two signature buns – the ‘Boom Burger’ and the ‘Jerk Boom’ – are new twists on old classics. The ‘Boom Burger’ combines juicy, British-bred beef with bacon jam and cheese, slapped between a sweet brioche bun. It’s a taste-monster – but the real treat comes from the ‘Jerk Boom’, with it’s mouthwatering combo of jerk chicken, fried plantain and mango and paw-paw sauce.

As burgers go, you can take our word for it – these are some of the most fun-filled flavour explosions you’re likely to find this side of the Atlantic. Turn the reggae up, bring your best festival spirit and be ready to get messy.
