has really added some gems to the neighbourhood with Yard Sale Pizza, Verden and Clapton Craft all greatly improving the food and booze on offer in E5. One of the most recent to open is The Bonneville, a French brasserie and bar on Lower Clapton Road which took over the site of an old Irish boozer back in the summer.

Inside it’s all Parisian chic, a dimly lit room with artfully distressed walls, a glowing bar area to one side and a rear dining room which sits under a curved ceiling complete with stained-glass window. It’s cosy, stylish and romantic, making it a great date spot, especially in winter.

Cocktails are excellent and would be worth popping in for even if you weren’t eating (it’s open until 1am Thursday to Saturday). On the menu there’s French classics such as Moules Mariniere, duck leg with red cabbage and a great selection of cheese and charcuterie.

Hearty food and great drinks: The Bonneville is all set to be a Clapton classic. Want more from Clapton, check out Blue Tit, Yard Sale Pizza & E17.
