Aurelia is a Mediterranean restaurant located in the heart of Mayfair which opened last year as a fine dining joint only to close for a soft refurb and re-open as a more relaxed eatery with fine dining below. We popped along to try out dinner in the new surrounds…
The bar, now running along the back wall, serves a selection of signature and classic cocktails. We started with an Italian Passion made up of Aperol, Campari and Passion Fruit and a Berry Collins made from Gin Mare, Blueberry Juice and Earl Grey Syrup. All present and correct.
As a first course we opted for crunchy Croquetas de Jamon filled with creamy potato and ham and the melt in the mouth Sobrasada de Majorca sausage with honey from the tapas menu. For mains the Monkfish a la Provençale came in a deep dish, the meaty fish coated with thick, spicy sauce served with soft peppers and tomatoes. Whilst Lamb Cutlets with Hot Peppers & Aubergine – still sizzling when they landed on the table – were well marinated, tender meaty pieces which fell straight off the bone.
We ended with the Rhubarb Custard and the Cannoli and we’re happy to say it was full marks all round! Service was efficient, the food was cracking and the cocktails were banging – we really can’t rate this place enough.
