Hoxton popped onto our radar last month when we spotted a 50% off soft launch sign in the window of the new restaurant on Hoxton Street. This weekend we went along to check out the new venture from the brains behind Zilouf’s on Islington’s Upper Street.

The menu is very on trend with dishes made for sharing which are broken into different categories; from the land, sea, garden and bits and bobs. There’s also a small yet quirky cocktail menu which like the food menu changes seasonally – Chocolate Old Fashioned anyone?

The food plates all sound equally as appealing and every dish – even the bits and bobs aka sides which can sometimes be fillers – is stand out. Chargrilled Shell On Prawns with chilli salt, aioli, black pepper & lime were soft, crunchy and perfectly seasoned. Edamame & Split Pea Fritter with halloumi & lime pickle yogurt were soft parcels with a crispy shell which worked well with the zingy, creamy dip. Whilst the “Bits & Bobs” which came in the form of a Flat Bread topped with tamarind & onion jam, chilli & coriander, crushed new potatoes and egg fried rice with sausage absolutely smashed it.

Mango Shrikhand Cardamom Yoghurt with ginger short bread & cumquat won on the desserts and as with the rest of the meal it’s all presented neat and tidy with a modern twist. We’ve racked our brains and we seriously can’t find a fault with this place and what’s more they permanently offer a dinner for two for £30 (that’s 5 dishes to share). Get down there before word gets out…
