RETAN TO BRING THEIR POP-UP SUPPER CLUB TO LOUIE LOUIE IN KENNINGTON

The roaming supper club has taken over the kitchens of Peckham Cellars, Legare, Crispin and The Great Gun Social, and now Retan are embarking on their longest residency yet with an upcoming three-month stint at Louie Louie. The duo behind the concept, sommelier Cameron Dewar (formerly of Elliot’s, Elystan Street & Berenjak) and chef Josh Dallaway (previously at Sager + Wilde & Silver Lining), have been working together as pop-up supper clubbers since 2021 and now have their sights set on settling into a permanent spot in 2023. But before then, they’ll be bringing some Parisian bistro vibes to Kennington.

A French-leaning menu has become Retan’s signature and this residency will be no different, with Dallaway creating an a la carte offering inspired by the cuisine. To start, there’ll be River Teign oysters and a plate of coppa, followed by aged beef tartar with seaweed relish, cured yolk & prawn crackers, a main course of salted pollack with kohlrabi, buttermilk & horseradish and an island’s chocolate crèmeux with sherry caramel & smoked cream for dessert. You’ll be able to get all three courses plus snacks for £45.

Dewar has taken care of the drinks list, sourcing low-intervention wines from across Europe with the likes of Clos Larrouyat “Meteore” and Domaine les Bruyères “Georges” to make an appearance. And, alongside their regular menu, there’ll be a weekly hot pot on Tuesday where guests will be able to choose one of two dishes, Sussex courgette chasseur or braised Herdwick lamb shoulder, for just £12.50. Retan will officially launch at Louie Louie this Wednesday – get that in your diaries.
