Islington’s newest bar Rattlesnake is a welcome addition to the otherwise chain-lead, wine bar heavy Upper Street. Set in what used to be a Walkabout it’s opening was always going to mean better things for Angel. The bar has been designed by Paul Daly- the man behind Miss Q’s in Earls Court, Vendome in Mayfair and Roadtrip in Shoreditch.
The emphasis is on rock’n’roll from the dark interiors and neon signs to the weekly programme of live music. There’s an outdoor area on the street level, a room with booths and a big bar, a live music room and talk of a roof terrace for 2013. Drinkswise the bar offers a good selection of beers, spirits and cocktails served in quirky glasses.
For those in need of something to soak up all that booze the bar offers a US inspired menu and by US we mean huge portions. On a recent trip we tried the Pork Tacos which were an incredibly generous portion, and priced at only £4 they are great value. We also tried a hotdog and burger, both served with triple cooked fries. Big, comfort portions – certainly saves on the post-gig trip to the kebab shop.
