First lit up in 2023, the Ramadan Lights are illuminating the West End for the third year running this spring. Set up by the Aziz Foundation, the light display, inspired by Islamic geometric patterns and celestial symbols associated with Ramadan, is made up of more than 30,000 LED bulbs. The lights above Coventry Street will be switched on from 5pm – 5am every night from 28th February to 29th March, and then on 30th March, the display will change from ‘Happy Ramadan’ to ‘Happy Eid’ and be in place until 6th April.
This year, there’s also an interactive ground-level installation called ‘Spread the Light’ in Leicester Square, where visitors can press a button to send beams of light up the structure to symbolise the spirit of Ramadan. And if you’re looking for somewhere to eat after checking out the lights, there’s an Iftar food trail you can follow, with local restaurants like 1 Leicester Square at Hotel Indigo, Franco’s, Americana London, Farzi London, Shake Shack, and Bone Daddies running discounts and specials.
