The new take on Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is coming to one of Soho’s biggest new venues this year
It’s been 30 years since the Oscar award-winning film came out, and 18 years since the Tony award-winning musical debuted in London, and now Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is getting a makeover. Priscilla the Party!, a slightly tweaked take on the timeless cult classic adapted for a new stage by the musical’s original director Simon Phillips, will open at Soho’s HERE @ Outernet this March.
The production will tell the same story that we’ve come to know of Mitzi Mitosis, Bernadette Bassenger and Felicia Jollygoodfellow, three friends travelling across the Australian Outback on a tour bus named Priscilla. Audiences can also expect to see plenty of the costumes, headdresses and spectacular performances that have made this show an international hit.
It also sounds like Priscilla is the latest cultural phenomenon to go immersive as this reimagining is being billed as a “sensory experience is poised to transport participants to the boundless Australian Outback, a world of glitz, glamour and endless entertainment”. And guests will have their choice of seats – whether on the dance floor or the ‘premium dining’ area – and can expect pre-show entertainment, a sing-a-long atmosphere and a post-show afterparty.
