Fashionand music are no strangers when it comes to working well together, sometimes they collide so hard that you end up with…Madonna X H&M…Other times, they get it perfectly right, and we end up with quiet possibly the most exciting collaboration of SS’15. Liam Gallagher’s Pretty Green label has just released a capsule collection entitled ‘Storm’. Inspired by the earth shattering 1973 Pink Floyd album ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ and its iconic album cover designed by the late Storm Thorgerson.
The legendary prismatic colours filtering through a black triangle is now a design classic and the source of inspiration for the collection. As well as featuring a rare Liberty print, created by Thorgerson himself. One of the worlds most Recognised LPs. The album itself featured some of Pink Floyd’s everlasting tracks such as Money, Breathe and The Haunting Great Gig in the Sky. Addressing themes central to the brands frustration with modern life and the blow of losing founder member, Syd Barrett and his brutal decline into severe mental illness.
An ingenious and original guitarist. Barrett was a pioneer in feedback, looping and sonic distortion. When his behavior became more erratic, the band decided to replace him and the harsh reality – one day, they simply didn’t pick him up. The band’s 1975 album ‘Wish You Were Here’ is a clear and affectionate tribute to the troubled genius. ‘Storm’ reflects the themes of modernisation and mutation. The core palette of charcoal greys is punctuated with Thorgerson’s psychedelic prints and fluro bright prisms, featuring in jersey fabrics. Referencing Thorgerson’s later work with Pink Floyd – Animals, the repeat pig print polo is a standout piece.
Our favourite piece, which also includes the exclusive Liberty print, is the oversized poncho. The bird motif features throughout the capsule and symbolises the freedom and fragile nature of the human mind and the extraordinary powers of creativity.
