You wait for one Banksy, then 250 come at once…
Banksy’s on a roll it seems, one that’s showing no signs of slowing down. If you didn’t catch Banksy’s mural on the Royal Courts of Justice before it was scrubbed away, don’t fret as this autumn Banksy Limitless London lands in South Kensington. The exhibition is promising over 250 Banksy works – one of the most expansive retrospectives of the artist to date.
Curated by Sorina Burlacu – who in recent years has taken the exhibition global across the US, South America, Asia, Australia and Europe – the display brings together his certified originals, rare pieces, digital works and sculptures under one roof.
Highlights of the exhibition include:
- An exclusive holographic experience created exclusively for the London edition
- Installations from the 2015 Dismaland “bemusement park”
- Certified prints of iconic works like ‘Flower Thrower’ and ‘Kissing Coppers’
- The large-scale Phone Booth sculpture
- More recent pieces exploring themes of immigration
- Original art from the Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem
The exhibition also promises to delve into Banksy’s process, featuring recreated stencil works and a mural installation capturing the essence of his street art. There’s also a specially produced documentary which will offer a rare behind-the-scenes insight into his life and collaborations.
If this dedicated exhibition isn’t enough, you can catch the artist’s piece featuring a rat hanging from the arm of a clock, at the London Transport Museum right now. And then more Banksy artwork will go on display at the new London Museum, opening in Smithfield next year – specifically his tank of piranhas on a City of London police box which had originally popped up in Ludgate Hill but was later moved to Guildhall Yard so it could be admired safely.
