The Team Behind Oriole Is Opening a Pop-Up Bar in Covent Garden

PRELUDE will be the appropriately named precursor to the second iteration of Oriole

After closing its doors not too long ago (due to the Museum of London’s expansion into Smithfield Market), award-winning cocktail bar Oriole is coming back to London with a new permanent site set to open in The Yards, Covent Garden, this summer. But first, the team (who are also behind Nightjar and Bar Swift) will be testing the waters with PRELUDE, a three-month pop-up bar, restaurant and innovation space, which will launch in March.

Though the concept at PRELUDE will be very similar to that of the OG Oriole – noting influences like Nikkei (Japanese-Peruvian fusion) and Argentine-Italian cuisines – a key difference will be that they’ll be pairing cocktails with an à la carte food offering for the first time. Dishes have been developed by Gustavo Giallionardo, who was head chef at Oriole, and are set to include the likes of:

  • Oyster, Amarillo Leche de Tigre
  • Raw Scallop, Edamame Agua Chile, Kiwi, Seaweed
  • Beef Tartare Sando, Koji Emulsion
  • Pumpkin, Tamarind, Peanut Sambal, Green Curry Creme Fraiche
  • Duck, Orange Mole, Beetroot, Pickles, Dukkah

And while PRELUDE will see an all-new cocktail list introduced, fans of Oriole 1.0 can expect the return of some of the bar’s signatures, including the ‘Acadia’ (a take on a Whisky Sour, inspired by the peanut butter and jelly sandwich).

Opens Wed 13th March 2024
23 Slingsby Place, Covent Garden, London WC2E 9AB
