Chef and restaurateur Omar Shah is launching his latest project, Bunso, in Kentish Town next month. By day, Bunso is a bakery, serving a selection of pastries, savoury bakes and coffee. By night, it flips into a pizzeria, with a menu running from crudo and kinilaw to salads and pasta, all filtered through Shah’s Filipino heritage and soundtracked by a purpose-built hi-fi system.
Bunso, which means ‘youngest child’ in Filipino, is Shah’s latest addition to an area he’s firmly familiar with. His Maginhawa Group already runs some of Kentish Town’s most popular spots, including Caribbean smokehouse Guanabana, Filipino ice cream shop Mamasons – which also has sites in Chinatown and Westfield – and the modern Filipino bistro, Belly. The group is also behind Filipino ramen joint Ramo in Soho.
Shah says this is his “most personal restaurant” yet, and he’s hoping it becomes a proper fixture in the neighbourhood. We’re big fans of Belly so are excited to see what’s to come with this one.
