OMAKASE COCKTAIL EXPERIENCE AT MACHIYA

For those of you who aren’t familiar with omakase, it’s an experience often found in Japanese restaurants where instead of ordering from the menu, you let the chef decide what to serve you – the word itself translates to ‘I’ll leave it up to you’. Machiya, the restaurant in the West End, has taken this concept and applied it to mixology, creating the capital’s first omakase cocktail experience.

Th speakeasy-style basement bar below the restaurant runs the experience Tuesdays – Thursdays (ideal for all of you who like a midweek tipple). After a welcome drink, you explain your flavour preferences to the mixologists, who then use gin, rum, vodka and sake plus other ingredients to shake up three totally bespoke cocktails. It’s £40 per person for the experience, which isn’t bad for four cocktails in central, and you can also add on some bar snacks (we recommend the edamame and the chicken pieces) to keep you going through all that drinking.
