Zeitoun – who already has Japanese joints in the Middle East – is making the move to London, opening his first UK spot in Soho. Named Oliver Maki the menu was created by Executive Head Chef Louis Kenji Huang, formerly of Nobu. But don’t expect your typical sushi rolls, oh no, here sushi is served in all kind of crazy combos…the signature Oliver Maki Roll is made of eight individual rolls in one, that’s 30 different ingredients and nine cooking processes. And serving rolls on a plate just won’t do, at Oliver Maki you can eat your sushi from a bespoke presentation box that looks like a glass cabinet. Yes it’s a gimmick, did we like it? Yes, we’re not ashamed to say we did…Not only that, loyal Maki diners have the chance to collaborate with the chefs and design their own roll, which may even appear on the menu. Talk about special sushi.
