It’s that time of year when Danish bakery Ole & Steen bring a slice of the Scandi fun to London. Celebrated across Denmark, Sweden and Norway, Fastelavn is on par with Christmas when it comes to eating and drinking, but with a spot of Halloween trick or treating and some Mardi-Gras’ festival vibes thrown in there too. And to help us Londoners get in on the celebrations, Ole & Steen have teamed up with Talking Tables to host a three-day bakery fest at their Chiswick store.
Between Friday 25th and Sunday 27th February, not only will the store be decked out just like those back in Copenhagen but it’s also gonna be stacked with their spesh festival buns (known as fastelavnsbollers if you’re keen for the full Danish experience). This year’s line-up includes the raspberry bun stuffed with raspberry cream and chocolate mousse; the mocha bun featuring a salted caramel cream and dark chocolate shards; and a vanilla number too, which is topped with whipped cream and white chocolate. YUM, we’ll take all three.
And as if that wasn’t sweet enough, there’ll be plenty of activities for the kids to get involved in as well as in-store competitions to win some extra goodies over the weekend too. And if you can’t make it to Chiswick but still want one of those buns, the good news is Ole & Steen will be selling all three of the festival buns (alongside their usual delish selection of goods) across all London bakeries until 4th April.
