old chang kee is bringing curry puffs to london

Not only do we have Michelin-starred Singaporean Hawker Chan appearing at KERB next week but we’ve also got news of a big Singaporean chain, Old Chang Kee, opening in London this spring. Old Chang Kee was founded in 1956 and now have more than 70 branches but their Covent Garden site will be their first in London.

Old Chang Kee specialises in curry puffs and if you’re thinking that they look exactly like Cornish pasties then you’re not too far off. Supposedly they were invented during Singapore’s British colonial era, when local chefs took the humble pasty and injected it with a bit of local spice and flavour. As well as the iconic curry puff, they’ll also be offering Singapore chicken curry, laksa, and nasi lemak.

Curry in a pasty? We cannot wait to try these.

Opens spring 2018
15a New Row, London WC2N 4PD
