The Winner of Netflix’s K-Chicken War Is Doing a Korean Fried Chicken Pop-Up in London

Oh Gee is coming to The Hoxton Shoreditch for four months

As the winner of K-Chicken War on Netflix, it’s safe to say that chef Byungtae Ahn knows a thing or two about Korean fried chicken. Since he won the show in 2022, he’s launched 101 Chicken in New Jersey and now he’s bringing his chicken to London with Oh Gee, which will be in residency at The Hoxton Shoreditch from September to November.

Korean fried chicken, aka yangnyeom dak, is known for its super crunchy coating and punchy glazes, and the Oh Gee menu will be centred around Chef Ahn’s winning fried chicken. You can choose between original, hot pepper and potato crisp coatings and five different glazes – sweet & spicy, hot & spicy, garlic crumble, soy honey and supreme. It’ll also come in sandwiches like 101 potato crisp chicken, lettuce, pickles and 101 sauce in a brioche bun, and original chicken with mortadella, lettuce, pickles and hot honey mustard.

There’s plenty more besides birds on the menu though, with other dishes including:

  • crispy spring onion pancake with soy vinegar
  • bibim guksu – spicy cold noodles, chilli sauce, house pickles and sesame
  • ddukbokki – rice rolls in a gochujang sauce
  • black bean pot noodle with American cheddar and kimchi fried egg
  • galbi-jjim beef shin lasagne
  • smashburger with kimchi ragu
  • kimchi cheese fries

There’ll be soju and makgeolli (Korean rice wine) on offer but it’s the cocktails that’ll be turning heads. There’s the Makgeolli Frappe (frozen Korean peach rice wine with yuzu & raspberry syrup), the Watermelon Sugar (JINRO Chamisul strawberry, watermelon & champagne) served in a light-up cocktail tower, and the 3x Spicy Marg (Patron Silver, JINRO Chamisul peach, gochujang, lime & agave) served flaming hot from a toy fire extinguisher.
