He’s spent time at Louie Louie and running his own residency at Borough wines in Kensal Rise and now Israeli chef Oded Oren is opening his first restaurant in Dalston this autumn. Oren will take the place of Floyd’s on Shacklewell Lane and will serve food inspired by Oren’s home and the rest of the Mediterranean at lunch and dinner, with a “unique” brunch also on the cards.
The menu will feature dishes like ox cheek and hummus – which Jay Rayner praised as ‘verging on genius’ in his review of Oded’s Louie Louie residency – plus a Jerusalem mixed grill with tahini and turmeric pickled mango; Monkfish ‘chraime’ and hand rolled cous cous; Chargrilled hake kebabs and sheep’s yoghurt; and Freekeh- smoked smoked green wheat with Westcobmbe dairy ricotta and fresh herbs.
Oded Oren’s weekend brunch includes the likes of chopped liver with crisp onions; ‘Sabich,’ sweet aubergines, egg and salad in a pita; and ‘Ful mudammes’, slow cooked British fava beans, tahini and pita: and challah French toast with seasonal compote.
Zeren Wilson of bittenandwritten.com is taking charge of the wine list where he’s focusing on smaller growers working along organic/biodynamic and principles of low-intervention winemaking, as well as a frequently changing ‘guest wine’ spot to include some iconic wineries from around the world.
