NOCTURNE TO OPEN IN SOUTH KENSINGTON

Steve Pineau and Xavier Rousset have already teamed up to open wine bar Old Brompton in South Kensington and now the pair are at it again to open cocktail bar Nocturne right underneath. The 70-cover bar will be a nod to the 1920s and Prohibition drinking dens of that era, with dim lighting, mismatched furniture, cocktail cabinets, a piano in the main room, and a blackjack and poker room for a late-night flutter.

Steve Pineau’s cocktail list, split into Vintage, Pre-Prohibition and Prohibition sections, reflects the kind of drinks that would have been served at the time (aka proper bevs with no silly glasses and no gimmicky garnishes). That means serves like the Isle of Man 1860s (Aperol, Amaro blend, Cinzano Bianco, tomato juice, celery bitters & peach bitters), the Nocturne 1900s (Japanese dry gin, dry sake, Earl Grey liquor, lavender syrup, grapefruit juice, plum bitters & sage bitters) and the Cambridge 1925s (mezcal, tequila, lime juice, orange tea cordial, rose syrup & watermelon electric bitters).

Xavier Rousset is taking care of the wine, with an affordable list featuring French and Italian winemakers and a selection of champagnes, and there’ll be 70 different cheeses and charcuterie to snack on whilst you work your way through the drinks.

Opens Fri 18th June 2021
158 Old Brompton Road, London, SW5 0BA
