love running. For the bus, to the bar, up the stairs, to the shop…around the park or in the gym, not so much. But when Nike challenged us with taking part in their #ReadySetGo campaign involving 10 different runs over 10 weeks throughout London working up to a to 5k (marathon)…we thought why not. New year, new us right?

But where to begin? Well given our gym kit is pretty much non existent, never mind our running shoes, which actually double up as our Sunday shoes. We started our journey at Nike Town Oxford Street where we undertook their Gait Analysis process, which helps find the best running shoes for you. That involves trying on the different styles of running shoes and running on a treadmill whilst your lower legs are captured on video. The Nike Masters then assess the video by looking closely at the slow motion playback; they can then advise on which pair of trainers suit your running style best. The purpose of the different trainers is to help with over or under pronation, which is the rolling of the foot during motion. The right pair of running shoes is all about giving you the best possible start AND to help you feel comfortable when running.

Once you’ve got the right trainers it’s time to style it up. Go wild people, there’s all kinds of colours, reflections and even glow in the dark. Besides footwear there’s plenty of apparel in the aisles to don yourself in all kinds of fluro…and we thought our disco days were dead.

Dressed, impressed and ready to go we meet Nike Master Trainer Becs who gives us a taste of what we’ve got to come. We’re shown how it’s done, from warm up to cool down, and hit 2.2km in under 20 mins. It’s a solid feel good start. The route took us around Clerkenwell where we got to see how to use London as a training ground. What is most noticeable in this warm up run is how supportive the running trainers felt; super comfy and they made a huge difference. If this is running then we are officially runners…now we just have to see if we can keep it up. Stay tuned for more as we begin our 10 week #ReadySetGo running program where we will bring our our 10 bespoke running routes to follow us along the way.
