Nike and Palace Are Opening a Community Sports Club in South London

It comes hot on the heels of the new Palace x Nike collab collection

Streetwear label Palace has form when it comes to killer collabs, like Stella Artois and Polo Ralph Lauren, but its latest partnership with Nike is taking things to a new level. As well as the P90 clothing collection, designed for both football fans and skaters, the two brands are opening Manor Place, a free sport, creativity and community hub in south London.

Built in 1895 as a public swimming baths, Manor Place in Elephant & Castle was also used a boxing venue (the Kray twins and Henry Cooper fought there) before falling into disrepair. Now Nike and Palace are giving the venue a new lease of life, featuring three zones for football, skating and creativity.

The Park and The Cage will be the main sports spaces. The Park is a polished concrete skatepark with ramps, ledges and benches that nods to beloved London skate spots like Southbank, Stockwell and Victoria Benches, with a programme that includes skate jams and girl-only sessions. That sits directly above the The Cage, a unique underground football area, which’ll host open play sessions, community competitions and invitational three-on-three seasonal football leagues.

As well as showcasing work from both established and new London artists, The Front Room also acts as a space for workshops, panels and pop-ups. The other creative hub, The Residency, will offer studio space to six emerging creatives on a rotating basis.

Speaking about Manor Place, Palace’s Co-Founder and Creative Director Lev Tanju said: “We had an idea of creating a large space for the community that would be about skateboarding and sport, and a space you could generally hang out in. When we spoke about the project, we knew Nike was the only brand in the world that could make something like this happen. We want Manor Place to be something positive for London — a city that has given us so much — and we’re really excited to give something back.”
