NEW PUB THE PARAKEET TO OPEN WITH EX-BRAT CHEFS IN THE KITCHEN

The new boozer and dining room is opening in Kentish Town in March

What was The Oxford Tavern on Kentish Town Road is being transformed into The Parakeet, with a 60-cover dining room where a locally sourced, seasonally changing menu from ex-Brat chef Ben Allen and sous-chef Ed Jennings will be served. Modern European in style, drawing on Ben’s experience at Brat and the two-star Steirereck in Austria, many of the dishes will be cooked over fire on the pub’s custom-made grill, including:

  • poached oyster with pickled elderflower
  • spider crab croquette
  • braised leeks, pecorino & smoked mushrooms
  • lamb chop & artichoke
  • beer rump, braised turnips & nettles
  • trout, sea herbs & butter sauce
  • wood roasted rabbit, kohlrabi & curry leaf
  • ox cheek and bream sharing dishes
  • rhubarb & buckwheat tart
  • chocolate torte

As it’s a pub, you’d expect the drinks at The Parakeet to be on point and the wine list certainly appears to be, with the offering centring around biodynamic and low intervention bottles and wines from producers including Seasmoke and J. Rochioli. Seems like the new wave of posh pubs is still cresting.

Opens Thurs 23rd March 2023
